A prosecutor from the
southern Italian city of Reggio Calabria, the regional capital
of a region known for its powerful 'Ndrangheta mafia, on
Wednesday warned that various organized crime groups, including
'Ndrangheta, have infiltrated Milan Expo 2015 as they have other
major Italian infrastructure projects.
"The mafia has been present in Lombardy and Piedmont for
more than 40 years and in Emilia Romagna for 30 years," Nicola
Gratteri told the TV program Coffee Break on La7.
"'Ndrangheta is in Expo, just has it was present in
high-speed rail, in the modernization of the Salerno-Reggio
Calabria freeway and in (other) big infrastructure projects,
because it is also a question of power, and not just a matter of
income - power over other criminal organizations".
