After listening to excerpts released of entries to the next Sanremo song contest, one has to agree with presenter Carlo Conti that love and melody are the common denominators.
With the exception of 'Platinette' sung by Grazia Di Michele and Mauro Coruzzi, and I soliti idioti (The Usual Idiots) by the duet Biggio and Mandelli, all the lyrics speak of love in the most conventional way and the overall atmosphere exalts typical Sanremo orchestra melody fare.
Commitment to social issues and references to the economic crisis and harsh reality are generally absent from the entries.
Di Michele's words and Platinette describe the reality of a homosexual and Usual Idiots refers to a birth due to the "rupture of a contraceptive" and the "twisting of balls," (a phrase that as Conti previewed, will be drowned out by an orchestral effect at the choice of the crooners themselves).
Everything else in the contest evidently is love, in the most classic crooning tradition.
