Rome culture authorities
displayed a giant picture of Anita Ekberg at the Trevi Fountain
in homage to the late Swedish actress immortalised on screen for
her performance as the blonde diva who waded into the fountain,
calling to the journalist played by Marcello Mastroianni in
Fellini's iconic 1960 film La Dolce Vita.
Ekberg was pictured sitting on the rim of the iconic
fountain with the writing 'Ciao Anita'.
The former Miss Sweden died on Sunday morning aged 83 at
the clinic just outside Rome where she had been living
wheelchair-bound for the past several years.
Also on Tuesday, Italian daily Corriere della Sera
published an interview with Ekberg dating to 2010 but which the
actress requested be published only after her death.
In it she was unsparing in her criticism of Fellini,
describing him as a "despot", envious of other directors and
disrespectful of women.
