The climate crisis and rising global
temperatures mean Italy's mountains have less and less snow and
this is already having a big impact on the country's ski
resorts, according to a report released on Tuesday by
environmental association Legambiente.
The Nevediversa 2024 report said that this season 177 ski-lift
facilities were temporarily closed in Italy - 92 in the Alps and
85 in the Apennines - 39 more than last year.
It said 93 were operating on and off, up by nine. while 260 had
fallen completely into disuse, up form 249 in the last report.
It said 241 structures were operational only because public
money was being pumped into them.
