Heavy rains in Emilia-Romagna and
hail in Puglia resulted in overflowing rivers and huge damage
for agriculture on Monday.
In Puglia on Sunday, hail, wind and heavy rain caused serious
damage to produce in the areas around Taranto and Bari,
including watermelons, pomegranates, vineyards, olive groves,
and citrus fields.
Giuseppe Creanza of the Italian Farmers' Confederation (CIA)
in Levante said damage looks to be in the "hundreds of thousands
of euros".
Further north in Emilia-Romagna, the Bologna-Rimini train
line was closed between Cesena and Forlì as a precaution on
Monday morning, after the Savio river broke its banks and water
was nearly submerging train tracks on a bridge in the area.
In that region, red alerts are in effect for overflows of the
Savio, Montone and Lamone rivers, and an orange alert is in
effect for the Ronco.
