A WWII Italian ship sunk by the
Germans after Italy switched sides has been found at the mouth
of the River Po, a local historian said Monday.
The wreck of the San Giorgio is covered in sand at the bottom
of the river at Punta della Maestra, said Luciano Chiereghin.
The ship was requisitioned and sunk after the armistice of
September 8, 1943.
