Defence Minister Roberta Pinotti
on Wednesday gave a medal to Ciro Marmolo, an 11-year-old boy
hailed as a hero after saving his two younger brothers from a
quake on Ischia. "It's just a souvenir medal I gave personally
to Ciro to show that all of Italy watched him" being pulled out
of rubble after his siblings, Pinotti said after visiting the
three in hospital. "I also brought teddy bears for him and his
younger brother Mattias, as well as other memorabilia from the
armed forces". Ciro was pulled out of the rubble after 16 hours
while Mattias spent about 13 hours there and their younger
brother Pasquale, seven months old, about six. Their rescue was
hailed as miraculous, and Ciro said his first thought when he
saw the light again was of God.
