Dozens of residents of Rome's
outlying San Basilio district on Tuesday took to the street to
block the arrival of a Moroccan couple and their three small
children in the council house they have been assigned, saying
"We don't want n**gers here, go home on your dinghy". Police
intervention managed to avert a confrontation and the frightened
family gave up trying to get in. The children were aged 1, 4 and
7, police said. Squatters were ejected from the council homes in
recent days and today the property was due to be handed over to
the allotted tenants. Five residents have so far been cited over
the incident and investigations are continuing to get to the
bottom of the revolt, police said.
