Survivors who were rescued
from a dinghy packed with asylum seekers in the Strait of Sicily
told anti-trafficking investigators that 51 people from their
group are missing. The poor-quality dinghy ran into trouble in
bad weather conditions while attempting to cross the
Mediterranean to Italy from Libya. The survivors arrived in the
Sicilian port of Augusta two days ago.
