A man committed
'femicide' near the northwestern city of Alessandria Thursday,
police said.
The 73-year-old man stabbed to death his 67-year-old wife in
the town of Valenza, police said.
The man, Carmelo Reitano, called Carabinieri to ask for
help, saying "She's not breathing anymore, come".
The police arrived and found the wife, Rita Giuseppa
Lercara, dead with several stab wounds to the neck.
Reitano was taken to a Carabinieri barracks to be
questioned.
Italy has seen a wave of murderous violence against women,
dubbed 'femicide' by the media, in recent years.
