An 18-year-old girl has died
of leukemia after refusing chemotherapy, Padua's Il Mattino
newspaper reported on Thursday.
Eleonora Bottaro was still a minor when she was diagnosed
with the bone marrow cancer earlier this year.
Her parents refused chemo on her behalf with her consent
because she wanted alternative treatment based on cortisone and
vitamin C, and got her released from hospital.
The health department reported the couple to authorities,
and a court removed the girl from their custody and entrusted
her to a doctor.
However, the parents defied the court order and their
daughter followed the alternative instead of the prescribed
treatment.
Il Mattino reported that the couple three years also lost a
22-year-old son, who died from an illness while on vacation.
