"Many" guests managed to get
out of Amatrice's historic Hotel Roma when an earthquake hit
Wednesday and "there certainly aren't 70 dead", a member of the
family that owns the hotel told ANSA Thursday. "The only one who
can really explain what happened is the owner's son but he's in
intensive care in L'Aquila," the family member said. Deputy
Mayor Gianluca Carloni said most guests got out before the quake
struck. The 6.2-magnitude tremor killed more than 250 people,
over 200 in Amatrice alone.
