Italian energy provider ENEL's
distribution arm E-distribuzione is mobilising approximately 100
power generators and ten floodlight towers after the 6.0
magnitude earthquake that hit central Italy in the early hours
of Wednesday morning, killing at least 63 people and leaving 'a
few hundred' injured.
The services have been made available to civil protection
authorities for use in tent camps and temporary reception
centres for the displaced.
Meanwhile, ENEL is working to restore power supplies to
affected communities particularly in the Lazio towns of Amatrice
and Accumoli, which were hit particularly badly by the quake.
It has also carried out checks on hydroelectric power
stations in the affected regions, which showed no damage.
E-distribuzione has activated the freephone number 803 500
to enable consumers to report problems with power supplies.
