A bike-riding mother and her
one-year-old daughter fell into the Naviglio Grande canal at
Bernate Ticino near Milan Tuesday.
The mother, 35, was OK after being pulled out but the child
was treated by paramedics after she went into cardiac arrest.
The accident happened when the woman lost control of the
bike after a fly flew into her eye, police said.
As luck would have it, an anesthesiologist was passing by
and jumped into the canal to rescue the pair.
The baby's heart stopped for about 40 minutes, police said.
The child was taken to hospital after paramedics restarted
her heart.
