Carabinieri police last week
arrested the manager and coordinator of a Milan nursery school
for alleged abuse of small children, ANSA sources said Monday.
Children at the nursery were allegedly slapped, insulted,
force fed, locked in dark rooms and tied them down with belts on
various occasions.
The manager, 35-year-old Enrico Luigi Piroddi, and the
coordinator, 34-year-old Milena Ceres, were arrested on
Wednesday and two other educators at the centre are under
investigation.
Ceres was put under house arrest at the weekend, while
Piroddi was released, although he has been banned for doing his
job. Carabinieri installed hidden cameras at the nursery after
two former workers reported abuse, the sources said. The arrests
took place soon after officers saw the woman bite a two-year-old
on the face, they said.
