Internal Revenue Agency Director
Rossella Orlandi said Friday the agency had sent out 100,000
letters to "weaker" citizens who have not declared income, in
part or wholly, asking them to comply with the rules. She
stressed that last year, "more than 160,000 out of about 300,000
complied spontaneously, without threats or sanctions". Tax
evasion and tax avoidance are one of Italy's biggest economic
bugbears.
