Italians are "forgetting" the
Mediterranean diet, according to a survey out Friday.
Just two in 10 Italians eat the four recommended daily
portions of fruit, three in 10 eat enough vegetables, and one in
three eats enough fish, according to data from 15,000
respondents analyzed by GfK-Eurisko market research
organisation.
At least 21% of the population doesn't get enough Vitamin
D, which is essential to bone and immune system health,
according to Professor Michele Carruba, director of the Milan
University Obesity Research Center.
Vitamin D is synthesized by the body when exposed to the
sun, and is also found in some foods including eggs, fish oils,
and mushrooms.
