Rome police on Friday arrested a
gang of 13 men, almost all Iranians, who allegedly robbed
tourists around Italy by posing as police officers.
Another two suspects are at large.
The bogus police pretended to be conducting drugs searches
and instead stole valuables.
Police placed 29 people under investigation, saying the
gang was based at Castel Volturno near Caserta.
The gang was said to have made most of its robberies in
Rome, Milan, Venice and Florence.
Many of the gang entered Italy as illegal migrants via
Turkey and Greece, police said.
