European Commissioner for the Euro
Valdis Dombrovskis told the Senate Thursday that "this year, if
all the flexibility is granted, and that decision has not been
taken yet, Italy will have a limit of 0.75% of GDP, that will be
the ceiling". He said it was too early to comment on Italy's
request, which is set to get a response next month. Italy has
asked to use the flexibility clause in the EU's Stability Pact
to help fund expansionary policies to stoke growth, arguing it
deserves the leeway because of extraordinary spending on the
migrant emergency.
