The former mayors of Messina and
the nearby town of Scaletta Zanclea, Giuseppe Buzzanca and Mario
Briguglio, were sentenced to six years each in jail Wednesday
for a 2009 flood that killed 37 people in and around the
northeastern Sicilian city.
Another 13 defendants were acquitted.
