Italian people's life expectancy
has fallen for the first time, according to a report presented
on Tuesday.
Walter Ricciardi, Director of the Regional Health
Observatory (Osservatorio sulla Salute delle Regioni) that
prepared the report, said life expectancy was 80.1 years for men
and 84.7 years for women in 2015. In 2014 life expectancy at
birth was 80.3 years for men and 85 years for women.
The Osservasalute report said the lower life expectancy
trend held for all of Italy's regions and blamed this on a
reduction in preventative efforts.
The autonomous province of Trento is that part of Italy
with the highest life expectancy - 81.3 years for men and 86.1
years for women. The region of Campania has the lowest - 78.5
years for men and 83.3 for women.
The report said that, according to 2012 data, ischemic
heart problems were the prime cause of death, provoking 12% of
the total, followed by cerebrovascular problems (almost 10%).
