Carabiniere Giovanni Macchiarolo
was sentenced to four and a half years in jail Thursday for
killing Naples 17-year-old Davide Bifolco on September 2 2014
after he did not stop at a checkpoint. The prosecutors had
requested three years and four months. The Carabiniere, found
guilty of manslaughter, was banned from public office for five
years. Macchiarolo had said he had not aimed at Bifolco, whose
killing sparked mass street protests in Naples. Bifolco's mother
Flora said "You stopped my son's heart, I'll eat yours, I'll
kill you", adding that another of her sons had got a longer
sentence, five years, for robbery. Lawyers for the family voiced
satisfaction with the verdict.
