Two Italian skiers from Piedmont
were killed by an avalanche in Val d'Aosta Wednesday, rescue
services said. The pair were identified as Franco Giuliano, 67,
resident at Mezzenile near Turin, and Pietro Gilodi, 59,
resident at Cellio near Vercelli. They were hit near the
Scavarda refuge in Valgrisenche, in the province of Aosta.
Rescue operations were conducted by the Val d'Aosta Alpine
Rescue Service and the Guardia di Finanza (tax police) of
Entreves.
