The granting of contracts for
bathing services on the free beaches of Ostia show "numerous
profiles of illegitimacy" such as the absence of tenders, doubts
on anti-mafia checks and a lack of compliance with tender
commission regulations, Italy's anti-corruption authority ANAC
said in a report sent to Rome authorities. The report said these
"anomalies" were "symptomatic of factors of risk for
corruption". The town council at Ostia was dissolved for mafia
infiltration last August.
