Piombino nurse Fausta
Bonino, in jail since March 31 in Pisa on suspicion of killing
13 patients, was released from pretrial detention Wednesday. A
detention review court ordered her release. Bonino swore on her
children she is innocent during an interrogation in a Pisa
prison earlier this month. Bonino, 55, was arrested on charges
of multiple homicide aggravated by cruelty, violation of duty
during public service and taking advantage of patient
vulnerability after it emerged she injected lethal doses of
Heparin, an anticoagulant, into her victims - men and women aged
61-88, none of them terminally ill. Bonino is married with two
children and had worked at the anaesthesia and intensive care
unit at the hospital in the Tuscan town of Piombino where the
suspicious deaths occurred for 20 years before being transferred
to a different department in October 2015.
