The financial industry's Atlante
fund is "an instrument to relaunch the market in NPLs
(non-performing loans)," Economy Minister Pier Carlo Padoan said
Monday, "which at the moment does not exist". Interviewed by the
Financial Times online, he said that "three years of recession
and a 10% loss of GDP in a bank-centric system leave wounds". He
said "what we are doing is planning a change in the banking
sector". He said "we need stronger banks and fewer banks. All
that is happening".
