Egyptian President Abdel Fattah
el-Sisi on Wednesday complained that "the problem" presented for
Egypt by the Giulio Regeni case was generated by the publication
of "lies" by the Egyptian media. "We have to be careful about
the lies and accusations from people around us, we Egyptians,
who have spread and published these accusations and these lies,"
Sisi said, adding "we have done it to ourselves. We are the ones
who have created this problem for Egypt". Sisi denied the
Egyptian security services were behind Regeni's torture and
murder.
