Prosecutors in the southern city
of Bari are investigating the father of three-month-old baby who
died in hospital in February for first-degree murder, sources
said Wednesday.
The 29-year-old suspect from Altamura was jailed Saturday
after police uncovered evidence he sexually assaulted a
14-year-old girl in January.
The baby girl died in hospital on February 13 after being
repeatedly admitted in respiratory distress. Doctors reported
her case to prosecutors, who gave Carabinieri police a mandate
to investigate.
An autopsy will determine the cause of death.
