Carabinieri police on Tuesday
staged dawn operations to execute 10 arrest warrants for members
of the Spada family who are allegedly part of a mafia clan in
the Rome seaside district of Ostia.
The Spada family is suspected of being one of the clans
that controls illegal business on the Rome coast, along with the
Fasciani and Triassi clans.
The arrested people are accused of various crimes,
including extortion and a kneecapping, with the aggravating
factor of using mafia methods.
"Ostia: 10 members of the Spada clan arrested at dawn,"
tweeted Stefano Esposito, a Senator for Premier Matteo Renzi's
Democratic Party and the centre-left group's commissioner for
the coastal area of Rome.
"The ones who nobody could wipe the smiles off their
faces. The day has started well".
