Eight out of 10 Italians want to
know how farm animals are treated, according to a survey out
Monday ahead of National Conference on Animal Wellbeing
organized by the health ministry in Rome April 13-15.
The conference bringing together scientists, researchers,
farmers, and animal rig hts activistswill focus on the idea of
"one health, animal and human" because the two are
interdependent.
In Europe, two billion fowl and 334 million mammals are
bred in 13.7 million different facilities.
A Eurobarometer survey out in March showed 94% of European
respondents feel it is important to protect the welfare of
animals such as chickens, cows and pigs.
In Italy, 80% want more information on the reality of the
farm animals' living and dying conditions, 47% reads labels in
search of cruelty-free food, and 43% says they are willing to
spend more if it means animals are treated better.
