Murders and armed robberies fell in
2014 while burglaries were on the rise according to a report
from national statistics agency ISTAT published Thursday.
The highest murder rate was in the southern Calabria region
while neighbouring Campania had the most armed robberies.
Burglaries were most frequent in the wealthier
centre-north, ISTAT added.
At least 31.1% of homicide victims were women and in 55% of
cases they were murdered by their partner or ex.
On a geographical level the central region of Umbria and
neighbouring Tuscany had the highest percentage of what Italians
refer to as 'femicide'.
Italy ranked near the middle with respect to other European
countries for this type of violence against women.
The perceived crime risk rose significantly in 2015 over
the previous year, with 41.1% of families considering the risk
to be high compared to 30% in 2014.
