Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni on
Thursday voiced approval during his official visit to Rangoon of
the Myanmar government's decision to release political
prisoners, students and activists over the next two weeks.
In his two days in Myanmar Gentiloni met with Foreign
Minister Aung San Suu Kyi and Myanmar President U Htin Kyaw.
Gentiloni was the first Western foreign minister to meet
Suu Kyi since her appointment as foreign minister.
He reaffirmed "Italy's full support for all efforts by the
new government aimed at achieving peace and unity in the
country".
