The only documented work by street
artist Banksy in Italy - located in Naples and titled "Madonna
with Gun" - has been saved thanks to a petition launched by
Alessandro Bello from the city's San Giorgio a Cremano district.
Bello collected 16,500 signatures using the online platform
Change.org.
Bello said in recent days a glass plate was installed over
the work to protect it.
"It wasn't done by the city, like my petition requested,
but from what I understand, by an ordinary citizen," Bello said.
"What matters is that now the work is protected, pending an
actual restoration that the Inward group has proposed to the
city," he said.
The only other Banksy work in Naples was painted over by a
local grafitti writer five years ago.
