Premier Matteo Renzi said Tuesday
Italy would only stop when it gets the "real truth" about the
Cairo torture and murder of student Giulio Regeni. "It is an
affair that has struck us all, I was struck by the dignity of
the family who gave a huge lesson to the world. We will only
stop in front of the real truth, we owe it to Giulio, to his
family and to all of us. Ours is a clear, hard and strong
position. We think and hope that Egypt can collaborate with our
magistrates, we are willing to see the papers together and we
want the truth to be found," he said. Italian and Egyptian
investigators are meeting later this week to compare notes on
the probe after several Egyptian versions of Regeni's torture
and murder met with incredulity in Italy.
