A Russian ballerina at Milan's La
Scala opera house who was hit by a tram in the Lombardy regional
capital on Monday is in a "stable" condition, superintendent
Alexander Pereira said Tuesday.
Antonina Chapkina was knocked over by a tram in piazza Duca
d'Aosta after allegedly stepping onto the tracks while talking
on her mobile phone.
She hit her head badly in the fall.
"We are waiting for news. Right now she is conscious but
sedated," Pereira said.
Chapkina, 26, whose career includes a spell at the Bolshoi
in Moscow, was due to dance the part of The Queen of Night in
two performances of 'The lovers' garden' choreographed by
Massimiliano Volpini to music by Mozart starting April 9.
