An Italian held without food o
water or access to a bathroom in Egypt for 35 hours five months
ago said Tuesday he had been lucky not to suffer the same fate
as Giulio Regeni, the student tortured and murdered in Cairo.
"When I read that Giulio Regeni had disappeared I insticntively
compared him with my case. I thought: I came out of it but he
didn't," said 44-year-old Milan man Davide Romagnoli. Romagnoli
was detained for taking a photo of the airport at Sharm El
Sheikh a few days after a Russian jet was downed in the Sinai
peninsula, and eventually deported.
