Egyptian President Abdel Fatah el-
Sisi on Tuesday voiced "the determination of Egypt to continue
its full cooperation with the Italian side with absolute
transparency to clear up the circumstances of the slaying of
Giulio Regeni and to put the criminals on trial". He was
speaking to a delegation from the NATO association of
parliamentarians with Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry beside him.
Different versions of Regeni's torture and death suggested by
Egyptian sources have been met with incredulity in Italy. The
Italian and international media have speculated he was killed by
Egypt's security forces because of his Cambridge research work
with trade unions.
