Rome's court for minors has
recognised the reciprocal adoption of the children of a lesbian
couple, the Famiglie Arcobaleno and Rete Lenford associations
said Tuesday, adding that it was a first for Italy. The girls
are aged four and eight. One is the natural daughter of one of
the women, while the other was conceived thanks to artificial
insemination carried out in Denmark. The court referred to the
principle of "adoptions in special cases". The children will
have the same double-barrelled surname but are not considered
sisters by law.
