The allocation of children's
games and holiday trinket stalls at the famous Christmas and
Nativity market in Rome's iconic Piazza Navona shows "clear
irregularities" and should be revoked, Italy's anti-corruption
authority ANAC said Thursday.
ANAC sent its findings to Rome commissioner Francesco Paolo
Tronca so he can take the appropriate action.
It said most of the stalls turned out to have gone to the
controversial Tredicine family that has a virtual monopoly over
open-air food vans in the Italian capital.
Rome city council on Tuesday froze the allocation of the
stalls pending the results of the anti-corruption probe.
A member of the family and former city councillor, Giordano
Tredicine, was implicated in the Capital Mafia case in which a
criminal organisation is accused of muscling in on city
contracts.
