A quarryman died Monday on
the job site while he was cutting marble.
Nicola Mazzucchelli, 46, was a father of four.
The victim was an expert at his job and his retired father
was quarry foreman.
The fatal accident took place at Calocara quarries near the
village of Miseglia in Massa Carrara province, where the victim
lived.
The marble-related locals of Italy's big three CGIL, CISL
and UIL unions called a 24-hour strike Tuesday.
"We need to work less and better," the unions said in a
joint statement. "The (safety) norms are in effect but get
circumvented. We can't resign ourselves to such tragedies".
