A man barricaded himself up
inside his Turin home on Wednesday after stabbing members of a
medical team who had arrived in view of possibly putting him
under a forced treatment regime (TSO).
A psychiatrist and a nurse were taken to the city's
Molinette hospital to have their injuries treated.
The man was subsequently detained, after police
negotiators convinced him to open his front door, and he is
being held at Turin's Martini hospital.
The team were attacked as they were deciding what sort of
intervention to carry out, sources said.
The alarm was raised by a second nurse who did not get
stabbed.
The injured nurse, a man, was stabbed twice in the chest
and may need surgery as a lung and the pericardium covering his
heart were perforated.
The psychiatrist, a woman, suffered superficial injuries
to an arm and her head.
The incident comes just months after the case of Andrea
Soldi, a 45-year-old schizophrenia sufferer who choked to death
while being taken in for forced treatment in Turin.
Three municipal police officers are among several people
under investigation in relation to that death.
