A judge on Monday shelved the
investigation into Monsignor Vincenzo Paglia, ex-bishop of
Terni, over alleged irregularities in the sale of San Girolamo
Castle in Narni.
The judge confirmed "certain" Paglia's "total
non-involvement" in the events under investigation, and said
that Paglia "in carrying out his pastoral duties always
demonstrated the sole meritorious goal of ensuring that citizens
received a benefit in social and cultural terms".
The investigation brought the arrests of three people in
July 2013, including the diocese's former technical office
manager Luca Galletti.
The probe looked into possible auction rigging in the sale
of the castle, which according to the accusation had been
purchased by a real estate company using the diocese's money.
