Fires in eastern Sardinia provoked
by an intense heat wave caused serious damage to housing,
destroying fences and wooden sheds, according to local reports
on Tuesday.
A few houses were completely surrounded by flames, but it
was still too early to assess the extent of the damage, local
sources said.
Some areas have been evacuated, with inhabitants directed
towards the beaches.
All local fire and rescue services were deployed to fight
the blazes.
