Four individuals receiving
disability benefits for blindness have been cited for fraud in
the southern Italian city of Catanzaro.
The four had received a total of 400,000 euros and were
discovered as part of a screening of 500 people receiving state
benefits.
The individuals were followed by financial police in the
capital of the Calabria province, and were found to wander at
will and alone around markets without visual problems and
through urban traffic. They also gave directions to the police,
who were pretending to be tourists.
One of the four used public transport to go to the gym and
work out, where he carefully chose and set up body-building
equipment.
