Finance police were serving 10
arrest warrants Wednesday including against two nuns in the
southern region of Puglia on charges of belonging to a crime
gang that allegedly bilked 500 million euros in the fraudulent
bankruptcy of the Divine Providence nursing homes, police said.
Three of the warrants were served against people already in
prison while seven were served on people placed under house
arrest in connection with the bankruptcy of the Divine
Providence Congregation, a religious order involved in providing
health care with offices in the southern cities of Bisceglie,
Foggia and Potenza, police sources said.
Police also requested the arrest of a New Centre
Right-Popular Area (NCD-AP) Senator, Antonio Azzollini, the
chair of the Senate's budget committee.
The request was filed with the upper house's parliamentary
immunity panel.
