(see related)The Italian foreign
ministry said Monday 40 Italian citizens have gone missing in
Nepal since Saturday's devastating earthquake.
The ministry's on-site crisis unit has so far tracked down
"eight tourists and over 300 unregistered Italians" in the area
affected by the earthquake.
The unit "is unceasingly engaged in the search for missing
fellow nationals...and is maintaining contact with the families
of Italians in Nepal," the ministry said in a statement.
As well, the ministry is setting up a C130 military
transport plane to ferry Italian nationals out of Kathmandu.
A second, larger military plane will be sent in the next
couple of days "when the largest possible number of fellow
nationals" can be gathered at Kathmandu airport, the ministry
said.
