A woman died on Monday night
after throwing herself off the passenger bridge of a ferry
travelling from Porto Torres in Sardinia to the port of Genoa on
mainland Italy.
The incident occurred around 10 pm local time around seven
nautical miles off the island of Asinara in northwest Sardinia.
Despite the dark, rescuers managed to locate the woman less
than half an hour after eyewitnesses sounded the alarm.
However, all attempts to resuscitate her failed.
She had been travelling with her husband who was notified
and followed events together with the ferry's captain.
