Police in the northern city of
Bolzano have arrested a Senegalese national on suspicion of
people trafficking, sources said Tuesday.
Investigators say Mohammed Diatta, 19, was steering a boat
full of migrants that capsized 80 miles off the coast of Libya
on April 12, killing at least nine passengers.
The Italian Coast Guard rescued 144 people and recovered
nine bodies on that occasion.
The arrest was part of a joint operation with the Reggio
Calabria and Trapani flying squads.
