A fierce
fire broke out in a carriage on a train packed with school
students in the southern region of Calabria Wednesday, causing
panic but no injuries, witnesses said.
The flames were spotted by some of the school pupils after
they smelled smoke that spread through the train's heating
system from the carriage that was afire.
Students in the burning carriage tried to break down the
door at the end of the corridor after they were unable to raise
the alarm but a short time letter the train stopped near the
town of San Pietro Apostolo, in the province of Caranzaro, and
the blaze was extinguished by railway staff using fire
extinguishers.
