Two Italians who collected
social benefits after claiming to be completely blind were
busted, one while driving and the other texting on a
touch-screen phone while directing construction workers, tax
police said Tuesday.
One collected benefits for seven years, the other for five
years for a total of about 120,000 euros, tax police in the
southern city of Crotone in Calabria added.
Police produced hidden-camera video showing one suspect
going to Mass, returning home alone and easily opening the front
door of the house.
Judges approved the seizure of assets worth 120,000 euros
from the suspects.
